Serial no. A846. Manufactured circa 1886 by Steyr for the Portuguese military, chambered in 8x60mmR Kropatschek, 32″ round barrel. Bore and rifling remain strong. Bolt is non-matching. Approximately 60% of the finish remains, with thinning noted along the barrel and receiver. Stock displays handsome original cartouches and has an old repair at the toe extending from the sling swivel toward the buttplate. The Model 1886 represents Portugal’s adoption of the Kropatschek tubular-magazine repeating system and was produced by Österreichische Waffenfabriks-Gesellschaft at Steyr. A handsome late-19th-century European military rifle retaining considerable original character. Action is smooth and functions correctly.
