Serial no. 5335. Manufactured circa 1942–1943 at Nagoya Arsenal, chambered in 7.7x58mm Japanese, 26″ round barrel. Bore is good with strong, well-defined rifling noted. Serial numbers are matching throughout the rifle, with the exception of the scope. The rifle remains in overall very good condition, with the stock displaying expected handling and service impressions consistent with wartime use. Approximately 10,000–12,000 Type 99 sniper rifles are generally estimated to have been produced, making surviving examples considerably scarcer than standard Type 99 infantry rifles. This example falls within a serial range associated with rifles originally equipped with the 2.5-power optic. The accompanying scope is marked “2.5×10/99 No.107.” The scope is non-matching to the rifle; the glass is cloudy from age, although the reticle remains clearly visible… Action is smooth, mechanically sound, and functions correctly.
